George Brown
The only Town Sergeant to die
during the execution of his duties
6th November 1940
George enjoyed this part of his work, and had requested the change in duty for the day. At 2.45pm on the 6th November 1940, a single bomber dropped one 500lb bomb, over Southampton and scored a direct hit on the Art Gallery. When the sirens had sounded, George, along with the teachers, had ushered the school children to a makeshift shelter in the basement. Unfortunately the shelter was not secure enough, and George, the teachers, along with 15 children perished in the attack.
There have been Two Town Sergeants that have died since I joined the team in 2004. As soon as I get the correct imformation I will be updating this page
